Author reminisces about the years 1924-'25 when he was a newspaper reporter. In '24, he spent his homeymoon with his first, wife, Lois Little, coverint the Atlantic City beauty contest for the Philadelphia "Daily News." There he met his idol from the "N.Y. World," Frank Sullivan, who got him a job on that paper. In '25, he was given a piece of news to develop into a human interest story for the World We Live In, involving the death of the 13-year-old son of Ignatz Sobolski. Author interviews the family immediately after the accident, before Mr. S. heard that Richard, who had been home with a cold for two days, had been struck by a car when he was first allowed out. Mr. Sobolsky had stepped out to buy Richard a Meccano set when the accident occurred. As soon as he returned, announcing that the policeman had given the news to him, author left with his story, not knowing that the memory of that interview would never leave him.
